History of HMA
The idea to be a Music Educator had long been on Matthew Hutson's mind. He is a life-long musician who started his journey with his father being a bluegrass player. He quickly realized he enjoyed teaching his friends as much as playing.
After he got some teaching under his belt, he began teaching private lessons as a teenager. The love for music + education continued as he earned his BA in Music from ECSU with concentrations in Music Education & Music Composition with a minor in Jazz Studies
He followed that by becoming a NC Public Music Educator for 12+ years starting in Raleigh & ending up back in Onslow County with 9 years teaching at his alma mater, Swansboro HS.
Hutson felt compelled to go full-time with his vision after still seeing the need for high quality music lessons in the area through the scope of both a public educator and musician.
One local business that has always supported music for 20+yrs is Swansboro Music Center. Hutson took his 1st lessons, purchased his 1st electrics, drums, live sound; almost everything! HMA proudly provides lessons there in Swansboro & its main studio in Hubert
